The VERIBOX-MINI is designed for metering points where safety, long-term stability and reliable data acquisition are the priority – wherever the environment, installation conditions and operational requirements demand more.
Large metering points need more
than standard remote reading.
In the context of gas stations, water metering shafts and decentralised installations, standard data loggers often fall short. What is needed are systems that work reliably even under demanding conditions.

Four applications where the
VERIBOX-MINI plays to its strengths.
From legally compliant self-consumption metering at gas stations, through transfer points and network pressure, to the battery-powered water elevated tank: each application area with concrete benefit for utilities and network operators.
At gas pressure-regulating and transfer stations, the station and self-consumption (e.g. gas for pre-heating before pressure reduction) as well as the load curve of large consumption points must be captured cleanly and time-resolved – on an hourly grid in accordance with GWG 2011. Stations are located in the ATEX area and usually have no power connection. This is exactly where the VERIBOX-MINI is at home.
- E-Control-compliant hourly values (load profile on the hour, GWG 2011 § 7 Z 35)
- Directly in ATEX Zone 1 – no Ex protective enclosure, no power connection required
- Gap-free acquisition as a basis for the natural-gas levy and network-loss / self-consumption billing
- 6+ years battery → ~5 years battery replacement only, instead of regular inspections
- Audit-proof, automatic transmission instead of manual reading
Transfer stations combine meters (turbine, rotary piston, ultrasonic) with volume converters (EVCs). The VERIBOX-MINI reads EK260/EK280, Corus, TME-400, Flowsick & co. directly via serial – and in parallel encoder, pulse or analogue. One device for a mixed device park, without a converter.
- Direct serial EVC reading (RS232/RS485/TTL) – no converter, no adapter cable
- Multiple sources simultaneously: volume converter + encoder + pulse + analogue
- Manufacturer-independent – one device type for different stations
- Hourly load profiles directly into SCADA/HES via MQTT or FTP
- Fewer on-site visits, faster commissioning via the 4-button menu
Pressure monitoring at regulating stations, network nodes and end branches: a pressure sensor (4–20 mA / 0–10 V) on the analogue input delivers continuous values, threshold alarms go out immediately via SMS, trends run in VERILOG. The ATEX Zone 1 approval allows measurement directly on the gas path – without a control cabinet, without a mains connection.
- Pressure sensor 4–20 mA / 0–10 V directly on the Ex-capable analogue input
- Instant SMS alarm on over-/under-pressure – faster than cyclic reading
- Pressure + volume + temperature combinable in one device
- Early detection of regulator drift, leaks and load peaks
- No power connection, mountable directly at the network node
Elevated tanks, spring catchments and shafts are often remote and without power. The battery-powered VERIBOX-MINI captures level and pressure with a level/pressure sensor, in parallel the water meter – and reports thresholds via SMS. Multi-year runtime makes complex wiring or solar unnecessary.
- Fully battery-powered – 6+ years, ideal for remote tanks without power
- Level/pressure sensor (4–20 mA) + water meter (encoder/pulse) in parallel
- SMS alarm on min/max level → protection against dry-running and overflow
- Gap-free data despite weak network (buffer + re-transmission)
- Shaft- and moisture-capable, low-maintenance installation
Why self-consumption and load-profile metering at gas stations is mandatory today – and a real advantage.
The regulatory framework around the Austrian Gas Industry Act 2011 (GWG 2011) and the regulator E-Control requires metrologically clean, time-resolved acquisition of gas volumes. For large consumption and transfer points, acquisition of the actual load curve on an hourly grid is required – the GWG 2011 explicitly defines the term "load-profile meter" (§ 7 Z 35) as a device that records the load curve on an hourly grid. The self-consumption of network and station facilities – e.g. gas for pre-heating before pressure reduction – as well as network losses must also be recorded cleanly and, together with the natural-gas levy referenced to standard cubic metres, form the basis for correct volume-based billing.
What used to be considered pure overhead is today an efficiency lever: anyone who records each station's self-consumption automatically, hourly and audit-proof not only meets the regulatory requirements but also gains transparency over pre-heating energy, detects drift or leaks early and replaces manual inspections with reliable remote reading. Data quality rises, operating effort falls – a clear added value for every network operator.
This is exactly what the VERIBOX-MINI is built for: ATEX Zone 1 (stations are Ex areas), fully battery-powered (stations usually have no power), direct reading of the existing volume converters via RS232/RS485 and hourly, E-Control-compliant transmission to the VERILOG portal or directly into the utility's backend.
General information, not legal advice. The applicable versions of the GWG 2011, the relevant E-Control regulations (e.g. on metering and load profiles) and the Natural Gas Levy Act are decisive. Specific thresholds and obligations must be clarified case by case with the responsible network operator or E-Control.

what counts in the field.
Three anonymised reference stories from typical VERIBOX-MINI applications – without naming companies or individuals. Story plus measurable result.
Wiener Netze has been reading its gas stations with the VERIBOX-MINI for around 30 years – about 3,000 gas metering points. Both the gas meter and a wide range of volume-converter makes from three decades are captured – manufacturer-independently via encoder, pulse and serial interfaces.
A municipal water utility reads its elevated tanks with battery-powered VERIBOX-MINI including level and pressure sensors. No wiring, no power connection – on min/max level an SMS alarm is sent immediately.
An industrial operator reads a heterogeneous stock of volume converters directly via RS232/RS485 – without a converter and without adapter cables. The VERIBOX-MINI delivers the hourly values directly into the existing SCADA environment.
What operators say about
the VERIBOX-MINI.
Deploying VERAUT's AMR solution was the smartest decision we have ever made. Although devices from many different manufacturers had previously been used, none of them worked reliably. Only with the VERIBOX-MINI did the remote reading of volume converters work flawlessly and without any issues. I would say the VERIBOX-MINI is maintenance-free – we only need to visit the gas station every 5 years for the battery replacement."
— Responsible team · Energie AG / Netz OÖ GmbH · AMR large gas consumers · ATEX Zone 1
Over the years, the most diverse volume converters have accumulated with us. The VERIBOX-MINI reads them all – without a converter, without a special solution. That is exactly what made our rollout so straightforward."
— Head of metering operations · regional gas network operator
Our elevated tanks are remote and without power. With the battery-powered VERIBOX-MINI we get levels and alarms reliably – for years, without having to drive out."
— Operations manager · municipal water supply
Directly in the Ex zone, without a power connection – and the hourly values arrive reliably. That takes an enormous amount of effort off our load-profile metering."
