the VERIBOX-MINI.

01
ATEX Zone 1. Battery-powered. Operated directly in the Ex zone – including communication.
The combination of ATEX Zone 1 certification and full battery operation is unique on the market. The device operates directly in Ex Zone 1 – including all communication, without an external power supply. Gas stations typically have no mains connection. Other solutions require external power or are only certified for Zone 2.
Field reference · Energie AG / Netz OÖ
"Most gas stations have no mains connection – and the device is ATEX Ex Zone 1 certified and can therefore be deployed directly."
02
30 years of field experience. Continuous development. No end-of-life.
No newly launched IoT product can claim 30 years of documented field reliability in ATEX Zone 1. And VERAUT continuously develops firmware and hardware – firmware updates even years after deployment, unlike devices that stop receiving updates after 1–2 years. Over 39,500 installations across Europe, the Americas and Australia.
Field reference · Long-term customer
"Even after years of operation, data transmission shows no failures or weaknesses whatsoever."
03
Serial interface direct. All common volume converters. No converter required.
Other ATEX loggers only read pulses. The VERIBOX-MINI reads volume converters directly via RS232/RS485/TTL – the interfaces actually present at large gas stations. No converter, no adapter cable, no additional point of failure. Compatible with all common EVC models on the market.

Why VERIBOX-MINI

What counts in the field: safety,
stability and low operational effort.

The VERIBOX-MINI was not developed for short-term pilot applications, but for metering points where technical reliability and dependable operation over years are decisive.

01
ATEX-certified for critical deployment areas
The VERIBOX-MINI is designed for applications where hazardous areas must be taken into account. This makes it suitable for gas infrastructure and other safety-critical measurement environments – Zone 1 and Zone 2 – where standard solutions cannot or may not be deployed.
02
Field-proven solution for long-term deployment
The strength of the VERIBOX-MINI lies not in short-term feature promises, but in its operational value over long periods. Field-proven since 1996 – this reduces project risks and builds confidence among technical decision-makers and safety managers.
03
Stable data transmission for reliable monitoring
Particularly at remote or hard-to-access metering points, robust data communication is critical. The VERIBOX-MINI is designed for dependable data provision in practical operation – with auto-fallback 4G → 3G → 2G and a local data buffer.
04
6+ years battery life with daily load profile
The long service life reduces maintenance and replacement intervals and improves the economics of decentralised rollouts. At gas stations without power: a service visit only every ~5 years – for battery replacement, not for fault rectification.

Application Areas · Practice & Benefit

Four applications where the
VERIBOX-MINI plays to its strengths.

From legally compliant self-consumption metering at gas stations, through transfer points and network pressure, to the battery-powered water elevated tank: each application area with concrete benefit for utilities and network operators.

⚖️
01 · Gas · Self-consumption · Compliance
Read self-consumption meters at gas stations in a legally compliant way

At gas pressure-regulating and transfer stations, the station and self-consumption (e.g. gas for pre-heating before pressure reduction) as well as the load curve of large consumption points must be captured cleanly and time-resolved – on an hourly grid in accordance with GWG 2011. Stations are located in the ATEX area and usually have no power connection. This is exactly where the VERIBOX-MINI is at home.

Nutzen
  • E-Control-compliant hourly values (load profile on the hour, GWG 2011 § 7 Z 35)
  • Directly in ATEX Zone 1 – no Ex protective enclosure, no power connection required
  • Gap-free acquisition as a basis for the natural-gas levy and network-loss / self-consumption billing
  • 6+ years battery → ~5 years battery replacement only, instead of regular inspections
  • Audit-proof, automatic transmission instead of manual reading

02 · Gas · Transfer · Volume converter
Read gas transfer stations & volume converters manufacturer-independently

Transfer stations combine meters (turbine, rotary piston, ultrasonic) with volume converters (EVCs). The VERIBOX-MINI reads EK260/EK280, Corus, TME-400, Flowsick & co. directly via serial – and in parallel encoder, pulse or analogue. One device for a mixed device park, without a converter.

Nutzen
  • Direct serial EVC reading (RS232/RS485/TTL) – no converter, no adapter cable
  • Multiple sources simultaneously: volume converter + encoder + pulse + analogue
  • Manufacturer-independent – one device type for different stations
  • Hourly load profiles directly into SCADA/HES via MQTT or FTP
  • Fewer on-site visits, faster commissioning via the 4-button menu

03 · Gas · Network · Pressure monitoring
Monitor network pressure decentrally – battery-powered with VERIBOX-MINI

Pressure monitoring at regulating stations, network nodes and end branches: a pressure sensor (4–20 mA / 0–10 V) on the analogue input delivers continuous values, threshold alarms go out immediately via SMS, trends run in VERILOG. The ATEX Zone 1 approval allows measurement directly on the gas path – without a control cabinet, without a mains connection.

Nutzen
  • Pressure sensor 4–20 mA / 0–10 V directly on the Ex-capable analogue input
  • Instant SMS alarm on over-/under-pressure – faster than cyclic reading
  • Pressure + volume + temperature combinable in one device
  • Early detection of regulator drift, leaks and load peaks
  • No power connection, mountable directly at the network node

04 · Water · Elevated tank · Sensor
Monitor water elevated tanks autonomously – battery-powered with H₂O sensor

Elevated tanks, spring catchments and shafts are often remote and without power. The battery-powered VERIBOX-MINI captures level and pressure with a level/pressure sensor, in parallel the water meter – and reports thresholds via SMS. Multi-year runtime makes complex wiring or solar unnecessary.

Nutzen
  • Fully battery-powered – 6+ years, ideal for remote tanks without power
  • Level/pressure sensor (4–20 mA) + water meter (encoder/pulse) in parallel
  • SMS alarm on min/max level → protection against dry-running and overflow
  • Gap-free data despite weak network (buffer + re-transmission)
  • Shaft- and moisture-capable, low-maintenance installation

Law & Compliance · Background

Why self-consumption and load-profile metering at gas stations is mandatory today – and a real advantage.

The regulatory framework around the Austrian Gas Industry Act 2011 (GWG 2011) and the regulator E-Control requires metrologically clean, time-resolved acquisition of gas volumes. For large consumption and transfer points, acquisition of the actual load curve on an hourly grid is required – the GWG 2011 explicitly defines the term "load-profile meter" (§ 7 Z 35) as a device that records the load curve on an hourly grid. The self-consumption of network and station facilities – e.g. gas for pre-heating before pressure reduction – as well as network losses must also be recorded cleanly and, together with the natural-gas levy referenced to standard cubic metres, form the basis for correct volume-based billing.

What used to be considered pure overhead is today an efficiency lever: anyone who records each station's self-consumption automatically, hourly and audit-proof not only meets the regulatory requirements but also gains transparency over pre-heating energy, detects drift or leaks early and replaces manual inspections with reliable remote reading. Data quality rises, operating effort falls – a clear added value for every network operator.

This is exactly what the VERIBOX-MINI is built for: ATEX Zone 1 (stations are Ex areas), fully battery-powered (stations usually have no power), direct reading of the existing volume converters via RS232/RS485 and hourly, E-Control-compliant transmission to the VERILOG portal or directly into the utility's backend.

General information, not legal advice. The applicable versions of the GWG 2011, the relevant E-Control regulations (e.g. on metering and load profiles) and the Natural Gas Levy Act are decisive. Specific thresholds and obligations must be clarified case by case with the responsible network operator or E-Control.

Frequently Asked Questions

Technical questions –
answered directly.

Primarily for gas and water applications with elevated requirements for safety, robustness and long-term stable data acquisition – especially self-consumption and load-profile metering at gas stations, transfer points, volume-converter applications, network-pressure monitoring and decentralised water elevated tanks.
Yes. It records the load curve on an hourly grid – matching the term "load-profile meter" defined in GWG 2011 (§ 7 Z 35). This allows station and self-consumption (e.g. pre-heating gas) as well as the load curve of large consumption points to be captured automatically, audit-proof and E-Control-compliant – directly in ATEX Zone 1 and without a power connection. (General information, not legal advice.)
Zone 1 and Zone 2 – classification Ex II 2G Ex ib IIA T2 Gb. Zone 1 allows direct deployment at gas stations and in volume-converter shafts without additional Ex protective enclosures. Most competitors are only certified for Zone 2.
With a daily load profile (hourly recording, 24 records/day) over 6 years. Energie AG / Netz OÖ confirms service intervals of ~5 years – exclusively for battery replacement, not for fault rectification.
Common volume converters (EVCs) can be read manufacturer-independently directly via RS232/RS485 or wired M-BUS: Honeywell/Elster EK260 · EK280 · Instromet 444/999 · RMG/Kamstrup TME-400 · SICK Flowsick · ITRON Corus/Evo+ · Dresser MicroSeries · American Meter iMeter · Flonidan UniFlo · Plum MacBat · Elgas Elcor – and more. In addition there are absolute encoders (incl. SCR), pulse-based meters via Reed/S0/pulse/Namur as well as analogue signals 0–20 mA and 0–10 VDC for pressure and process values. No converter required.
Yes. A pressure sensor with 4–20 mA or 0–10 V is operated directly on the analogue input. On over- or under-pressure the VERIBOX-MINI triggers an SMS alarm immediately; trends run in parallel in VERILOG. Pressure, volume and temperature can be combined in one device – ideal for regulating stations and network nodes.
Yes. The VERIBOX-MINI is fully battery-powered (6+ years) and therefore designed for remote elevated tanks, spring catchments and shafts without a mains connection. A level/pressure sensor (4–20 mA) captures level and pressure, in parallel the water meter via encoder/pulse. SMS alarms protect against dry-running and overflow.
No. Direct transmission via 4G/3G/2G to the VERILOG dashboard or your backend. No gateway, no own server. MQTT and HTTP enable direct integration into SCADA, HES and ERP.
Automatic switchover: 4G LTE → 3G UMTS → 2G GPRS/CSD. All data points are buffered locally and automatically re-transmitted after reconnection. No gaps in the load profile.
Yes. The solution is designed for professional AMR and monitoring processes. MQTT, FTP, SMS and HTTP enable direct integration into existing SCADA, HES, MDM and ERP environments – without complex middleware.
